Day trip to London from S.Wales.
Passed 3 T7 Californias on the M4 , 1 x Beach and 2 x Oceans.
NO other T5/5.5/6/6.1 at all in 140+ miles. Few Transporter conversions seen.

So, does this tell us anything about the new T7 California Owners and their vehicles?

At least they are out using them as VW intended.

I would suggest not really. We see mainly T6, T5 conversions, a few Caravelles, rarely a T7, often the Ford equivalent and rarely Oceans and Beaches. Hampshire based. Clearly not in the money like those folk in London and South Wales! ![;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 "Wink ;)")

I thought the new california was not a T7? The T7 is that ugly Ford crossbreed?

Nah, I know you have the passenger version [@WelshGas](https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/members/6823/) but I reckon you are experiencing that old syndrome that people of a certain age know/get .......... 'Buy a fire engine and everybody's got one!' ![:)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 "Smile :)")

Seeing as there will never be a new VW Transporter based California made by VW then the New California is as far as I am concerned the T7 and that is as the Club has defined it , the T7 California.

Tells you that T7 Californias are bought for commuting on motorways. Now if you were driving around the West Coast of Scotland, l bet you'd see loads of proper Californias and very few T7.

840 Californias registered in the first 3 quarters of 2025 ( all variants ) so on trend for 1120 for full year which suggests the new one is not a sales flop but not a sales success either.

From your chart, 2025 looks a little higher than 2020 when Covid was keeping us all at home. Or am I reading this wrong?

You’re spot on, they weren’t coming out of the factory in 2020.

On today drive to the west coast tourist Mecca of Fort Augustus for a sunny walk, only saw mosty T5 and T6 conversations and a few T6 oceans were encountered. No new California or beach, only seen them in multi van form up here, tend to be hired by larger tourist family’s. Still outnumbered by the Merc Vito multivan equivalent and hire cars with the std erratic driving.

I'm yet to spot a single new California. Only seen one Multivan in a car park in November last year although I haven't been outside the local area that often in the last few months so it's not really a comprehensive survey. I'd guess it says people around that there London town have got more money to spend.

I'm off to Scotland for a few days tomorrow in mine so maybe I'll see some.

A new MV ocean passed me on the M6 when I came home from camping in Wales in January and that's it!?
We have just arrived back from Scotland this evening staying at "the woods" meh, and saw quite a few MV passenger variants.
If you live near London you'll see hundreds of these passenger MV variants as Addison Lee use them as do lots of chauffeur drive companies.

Snap....in the car park at Go Outdoors....to be honest I parked next to it (bay inbetween), didn't really register, and then I saw the Ocean and thought hmmmm.... nondescript in the grey with standard wheels / offering..... if I didn't spot the writing, I dont think I would have realised.

Now I have slept on it I've seen quite a few although obviously not as many as the older variants but I saw quite a few at the NEC carpark that folk had driven upto visit the show including mine.

The one thing that is funny is that my wife drives it as a day runner and she has many a folk come chat to her about it and admire it when in carparks.
